One great thing about whiteboards is that you can walk towards them to focus on a particular area or step away to get the big picture. I find that a valuable part of the deconstruction-reconstruction process.

Colored Post-its and markers help organize and re-organize. Their temporary nature allows them to be moved into groups or timelines as needed to uncover the relationships and assumptions that hold back many projects.

This exploration is the first step. Things really heat up when the pivot tables come out.
